How contractors are verified

No contractor profile is visible to the public until a person on our team has approved it.

What we check

• Police Certificate of Character — for every contractor, without exception.
• Public liability insurance — the certificate, the policy number and its expiry.
• Government-issued ID.
• Trade licence — for electricians and other licensed trades.

Checked by a person

Not an automatic scan. Someone reads each document, checks the details match the profile, and either approves it or sends it back with a specific reason.

Every year, not just once

Verification is re-checked annually, and sooner if a certificate or insurance policy expires. A contractor who lets their documents lapse is hidden from the marketplace until they renew — even if they were verified before.

The badge

Approved contractors carry a Red Plate Verified badge showing the date they were last verified. If you cannot see that badge, the profile is not approved.

How documents are stored

In private storage, separate from the rest of the site, not reachable from any public address. Only the review team can open them, and each access is recorded.
